We are very proud to announce that at the Anglesea Senior Carnival, hosted on Sunday January 12th 2025, and hopefully at every future Anglesea Senior Carnival, the following event will be held. The Jim and Barbara Morgan OAM Open Mixed Taplin Relay Cup.

The Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club is proud to host the inaugural Jim and Barbara Morgan Open Mixed Taplin Relay Cup. This event honours Jim and Barbara Morgan, whose combined contributions have significantly shaped lifesaving in Victoria and across Australia.

Barbara Morgan’s journey in lifesaving began at the age of 10 when she joined the Altona Life Saving Club. Her dedication led her to become one of the first female members of the South Melbourne Life Saving Club to earn her Surf Bronze in 1987, inspiring many women to pursue similar achievements. Over the years, Barbara has held numerous qualifications and volunteered extensively as a patrolling member, instructor, examiner, official, coach, committee member, and mentor. Her commitment has been recognised with life memberships in multiple organisations, including Altona Lifesaving Club, South Melbourne Lifesaving Club, Life Saving Victoria, Commonwealth Lifesaving, and The Royal Life Saving Society of Victoria and Australia. In 2008, she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her services to lifesaving. Last year Barbara was also awarded the title of KNIGHT in the Order of Lifesaving by the International Life Saving Federation (ILS).

Jim Morgan has also played a pivotal role in the lifesaving community. He held the position of President at the South Melbourne Lifesaving Club for 21 years. He is a Fellow of the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia and a life member of South Melbourne Life Saving Club along with the Royal Life Saving Society Victoria and Australia. Together with Barbara, Jim was honoured with the HRH Prince Michael of Kent 125th Anniversary Certificate of Merit, presented by the Queen at Buckingham Palace, acknowledging their global impact on lifesaving. In 2020 Jim was also awarded a Meritorious Service Medal by The Royal Life Saving Society of Australia.

As a competitor Jim has won numerous State, National and World titles.

Both Jim and Barbara have also held senior officiating roles at the World Lifesaving Championships for over 40 years.

The Jim and Barbara Morgan Open Mixed Taplin Relay Cup will feature teams comprising 3 male and 3 female athletes, reflecting the inclusive spirit that the Morgan's have championed throughout their lives. This event not only celebrates their legacy but also promotes the values of teamwork, dedication, and community service that are the cornerstone of lifesaving.
