Clubhouse Farewelled in Style!
With the sun shining brightly it was a picturesque day at our clubhouse’s Farewell Party with close to 300 members past and present attending. It was so great to see some faces who had travelled from interstate to attend the day and clearly displayed the lifelong memories and friendships the clubhouse and Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club have helped to create.
With eight Past Presidents in attendance, guests were entertained with stories of times gone by.
Special thanks to these Past President /members for their contribution to the day:
John Worrell 1978 – 1981
Ajax Sutherland 1981 – 1984
Ron Canale 1988 – 1991
David Kennedy 1991 – 1996
Mike Martin 1996 – 2000
Warren Clarke 2006 – 2010, 2014 - 2016
Naomi Symington 2010 – 2011
A very big thank you to ASLSC Patron Frank Herd who once again generously donated the meat for the BBQ. Thanks also go to our partners the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery for the raffle goodies and gourmet ASLSC chocolate blocks, and Gelato Gelato provided a delicious offering to round out a wonderful meal.
It was also fantastic to have local musician Tristan Ross in attendance entertaining the guests. He mentioned to me he really enjoyed hearing about all the bands that played at the club, especially The Group which he grew up on.
It was especially significant that on the day we farewelled the old clubhouse, we reached our Redevelopment fundraising target. Thanks to some generous members, $26,000 was donated on the day, rounding out the 5 million dollar target that was set when the project was initiated.
What an incredible achievement to reach this figure. It would not have been possible without the work of the Building and Redevelopment Committee and the tireless fundraising work of Fundraising Chair Ingilby Dickson. A big thank you to everybody who has contributed so far.
Of course, it’s never too late to donate! While we have now reached the target for the actual building works, there is still a lot of work to be done as we look to fit out the new building.
As the sun set on the Farewell Party and we reflected on 52 years of memories in the clubhouse– it was indeed fitting to reflect on the words of the Anglesea Nipper Chant:
We are Anglesea, couldn’t be prouder!
