Silver Salties
Anglesea Silver Salties Beginners Body Surfing Program
Experience a safe introduction to the fabulous feeling of catching a body wave with appropriately trained Volunteer Surf Life Savers (SLS). In this innovative program, we teach bodysurfing from a holistic perspective. Physically, mentally, emotionally and socially, body surfing is a great way to connect to self, other people and the ocean. Maybe it’s a decades since you last frolicked in the ocean or maybe you’ve never had that opportunity.
So now’s your chance. However, first and foremost, this activity has to be safe for you, so you must be physically and mentally prepared to:
-
Stand and walk unaided in hip depth water with waves challenging your balance for 40 minute
-
Stand up without assistance from an ‘all fours’ kneeling position in knee deep water.
A typical session starts with a welcome, introductions, group check in, safety and the session overview by the SLS Club leader. We discuss the conditions and the safest place to enter the water, followed by a warm up and our body surfing skills session. This all usually takes about 45mins to 1 hour, followed by coffee - not compulsory but very enjoyable!
The program will run at the Anglesea Main Beach and you are expected to attend all three sessions as each builds on the one before and all are important.
Unfortunately, we will not able to offer a beginners course this 2024/25 summer. As a result no new members will be accepted. Beginners courses will be reopened for summer 2025/26.
Saltie sessions for current members will be hosted during the school holidays with dates for 2025 to be confirmed soon.
Post summer sessions will be posted here as soon as available.
To ensure your safety and the opportunity to have one to one instruction our numbers are strictly limited.
There is NO COST. Need more information? Thinking of registering?
